Welcome to Part 3 of "The Hero/Fool's Journey"! To recap, the Hero/Fool started by taking a leap of faith into the unknown, contemplating rituals and ideas he wants to manifest and is ready to grow and create.
3. The Empress
What does the Empress have to tell us? What does it mean to be the Empress?
Achieving balance within yourself in order to bear fruit. The time is right to bring your creation to life, to give birth, to manifest your idea into reality. You have found and maintained that balance, either within yourself or with another. Embracing your inner powers of creation. Birthing an idea into reality. The pomegranates on her dress link her to the High Priestess, signifying she has opened the fruit, peeled back the layers and is presenting that fruit to the world. She is the ideas woman, the Creative one. The neck that turns the head. She is confident in what she knows, as she represents the Divine Feminine, the knowledge of the High Priestess combined with the power to create. She doesn't need the Emperor, but would like his partnership, to have him as a Divine Counterpart. She needs an Emperor who will be open with her and share the power equally.
IN BETWEEN CONCEPT THAT CONNECTS THE EMPRESS TO THE EMPEROR: The Hero/Fool contemplates the balance of opposites.
4. The Emperor
What does the Emperor have to tell us? What does it mean to be the Emperor?
The organizer and enforcer. The Emperor enforces the law, under advisement of the Empress, if a balance is maintained between them. He looks to her for direction and guidance, but can be unwilling to give his power over to her. He is headstrong and prideful. He wants to be the Head Honcho over everything, but if he's smart he will listen to the Empress and take her ideas into account. The shifty eyes can be him looking to her, but it can also mean he is being shifty in order to get his way. He is a mover and a shaker, a chess game player, a planner and organizer, but is it for good or ego? Will the Emperor (representing power & control) work together with or against the Hierophant (representing religion & tradition)? He is pushing for something to begin and has the power to make it happen.
IN BETWEEN CONCEPT THAT CONNECTS THE EMPEROR TO THE HIEROPHANT: The Hero/Fool is about to embark on a crusade of some kind.
5. The Hierophant
What does the Hierophant have to tell us? What does it mean to be the Hierophant?
He has fought really hard for his beliefs and traditions, so much so that he will stop at nothing to enforce them on others. He believes it is his role and mission to bring spirituality and traditions to the people, but he has become rather rigid in his ways and teachings. He can be well-meaning and have valuable truth to share, but he doesn't leave a lot of room for questions or different ideas/ways of doing things. Tradition or BUST. The Fool/Hero can either be the one who has become too rigid in his beliefs, or he can be the one who is feeling the constraints and limitations of an external system/structure and wants to rebel or break free. The key is to figure out which role you are playing. What are your motivations for passing on traditions, rituals and knowledge? This is about questioning higher level commitment, whether relational, religious, spiritual, organizational, etc.
IN BETWEEN CONCEPT THAT CONNECTS THE HIEROPHANT TO THE LOVERS: The Hero/Fool is contemplating the transference of knowledge and ritual.
